Paradise Dam Service Needs And Options Assessment

Category
Project

Paradise Dam is a 52m high roller compacted concrete dam located approximately 80 kilometres south west of Bundaberg on the Burnett River. It is a key water supply for irrigation and urban areas around Bundaberg.

It has been identified that, whilst the dam is considered safe under normal conditions, there is an increased risk of dam failure should an extreme flood like the 2013 event occur again. NCEconomics  was engaged to prepare the service needs and option assessment to support the business case for the Paradise Dam Improvement Project.

The assessment considered a range of sectors including agricultural, urban and industrial demand. Additionally, the future impacts of climate change on water requirements were included in the demand modelling using the RCP 8.5 climate projections and econometric analysis of historical water use.
